CASE STUDIES

Real projects. Practical engineering solutions.

Every processing project brings its own challenges, from increasing capacity and improving an existing line to introducing new equipment or developing an entirely new process.
Our case studies show how ARM Engineering works with manufacturers to understand those challenges, develop the right technical solution and support delivery from concept through to installation, commissioning and beyond.

INDUSTRY: TIMBER

Timber Heating System

Heating system (hot oil) is a critical component in kiln drying of timber products.

01 — PROBLEM FACED
Heating system (hot oil) is a critical component in kiln drying of timber products. Absolute certainty of the function of the oil pipework, valves, pumps, heaters, heat exchangers and reservoirs is critical to safe operation of plant. The operator of the plant needed help to review and update their existing documentation to make sure the drawings matched the installed equipment.
02 — How did we find a solution?
Intensive site visit and onsite work while the process was mapped. Andrew Marston came to site and traced every pipe, instrument and device, placing unique equipment tags for easy identification and drawing reference. Further updates and small revisions conducted online.
03 — Documentation provided
Process/Piping and Instrumentation Diagram.

INDUSTRY: Food

Vegetable Freezing

Multinational client runs a vegetable freezing operation utilising Ammonia refrigeration.

01 — PROBLEM FACED
Multinational client runs a vegetable freezing operation utilising Ammonia refrigeration. Their system documentation required review, update and readability improvement. Absolute certainty of the function of the Ammonia compressors, valves, pumps, heat exchangers and reservoirs is critical to safe operation of Plant. Safety shut off valve designation and locations must be documented as mandated by law.
02 — How did we find a solution?
Intensive site visits and inspections coupled with drafting office work. Online meetings to clarify details. Online and in person.

Andrew Marston worked with local trades and engineers to identify all pipe runs and valve locations in a 50yr old plant.

01 — PROBLEM FACED
Production Plant upgrade required increased supply of site services.
02 — How did we find a solution?
Intensive onsite and office based work to identify the required increase in each of the service types. Steam and Condensate, Compressed Air, Hot water, Cooling water, Process water and other site/process specific services.

Online and in person with vendors and other subject matter experts. Andrew Marston collaborated with local trades and engineers/drafting services.
03 — Documentation provided
Process/Piping and Instrumentation Diagram, Equipment list, Instrumentation list, Valve list, Fittings list, Piping and Flange list, Gantry design drawings, 3D pipe layouts.
